Our Story

The Red Iron Activity Center, named after Crossland Construction Company founder Ivan Crossland, Sr., was created to expand fitness and recreational opportunities for the Columbus community. Opened in August of 2021, the facility is housed in a former department store building, utilizing a space that sat empty for over 20 years. The renovation has resulted in a bright and inviting space for community activities of many varieties, for all ages and abilities.

Access to the center is available to residents of Cherokee County and beyond through paid membership. A $5 day pass option allows visitors to our area to also utilize the facility. Crossland employees, as well as employees of the City of Columbus, the Cherokee County Sheriff's office, and the Columbus Police and Fire departments, receive free memberships. The Columbus school district and youth involved in activities sponsored by the Columbus Rec Commission also receive complimentary use of the space. The center features 17,000 SF of court space, an indoor walking track, two batting cages, and state-of-the-art fitness, strength, and cardio equipment. Outside there are lighted pickleball courts, yard games, and picnic and play areas. A wide variety of classes, leagues, and tournaments are offered on a regular basis.
